Coming of Age

Dedicated to my childhood friend, Carrie Shurte Smith, her husband, Phil Smith, and her parents, Clare and Dick Shurte.

Our parents say we met at the age of three or four at the local YMCA nursery school. Personally, I don’t remember that far back, but I know that Carrie was there as far back as I can remember. Besides my family, I’ve known Carrie the longest. We were each a piece of the other’s family.
